State vs The Road Warrior
Car Navigation Systems have come along way. This Voxon unit is around $270, but they can go as high as $1000. Most have speed and red light camera warnings but are only as good as the updates you download to you maps. Do your research, some like the Navman want you to pay a fee to unlock the thing.

Insurer protects licence losers

IT WILL not stop you getting caught by a speed camera, but it could help your wallet. Australian motorists are now able to insure themselves against a loss of licence.
IT WILL not stop you getting caught by a speed camera, but it could help your wallet. Australian motorists are now able to insure themselves against a loss of licence.
Loss of Licence Assistance, offered by Ezy Insure, covers drivers for up to $1000 a month for three months to cover the cost of alternative transport when their licence is suspended.
The new insurance policy covers only minor speeding offences and is not intended to encourage speeding but to assist work and family arrangements.
National Motorists Association spokesperson Michael Lane said the cover would be welcomed by drivers who had been caught unnecessarily.
"This insurance is becoming an unfortunate necessity as a result of the authorities' predilection for inappropriately low speed limits and unthinking automatic enforcement," Mr Lane said.
"If you are driving in the country and overtake a semi-trailer travelling at 90 km/h, it is safer to accelerate even if it is over the speed limit in order to minimise the distance driven on the wrong side of the road."
National Underwriting Agencies spokesman Noel Johns said the policy was designed for good drivers who fell victim to revenue-raising.
"Thousands of Australians are being penalised for minor transgressions each day and the loss of their licence can really affect their work and family life," Mr Johns said.
"There are over 10.5 million registered passenger vehicles in Australia and the majority of the drivers of those vehicles are trying to do the right thing.
"But with the increase of fixed cameras and other devices, people are getting tired of being booked for a few kilometres over."
An increase in the number of speed detection devices throughout Australia has made it more likely for the average motorist to accumulate points and lose their driving licence.
The latest VicRoads figures show 33,082 full-licence drivers had 12 or more demerit points at June 30 last year, while 12,132 had 11 demerit points and 22,844 had 10 demerit points.
The State Government and Victoria Police deny speed cameras are used to raise revenue.
The Government expects to reap $843 million in fines and regulatory fees, including speed camera revenue, in 2007-08.
The insurance is available in the US and Britain but is an Australian first.

MP wants more speed cameras

MORE speed cameras will be installed on the Princes Freeway between Geelong and Melbourne if a local politician has his way.
Geelong MP Ian Trezise yesterday revealed his bold plan for point-to-point cameras _ which calculate a motorist's speed based on travel time over longer distances.Under Mr Trezise's plan, the existing cameras, which simply detect speed at their location, would remain.
The Geelong Advertiser at the weekend revealed the State Government last year gained $20 million from the highway cameras, which nabbed 400 motorists a day.
One driver was caught travelling at 207km/h.
Mr Trezise said statistics showed the existing cameras had clearly not stopped all motorists speeding. He said he often watched drivers during his own travels between Geelong and Melbourne slowing as they passed the cameras before speeding up again.
But he said he believed the cameras should remain, along with new point-to-point devices.`
`I'm about minimising the number of deaths on the road, which we have done as a Government during the past eight years,'' Mr Trezise said.`
`The point-to-point cameras is the next step.''
Oh and Don't be a hoon on the roads, be safe and have patience when passing that caravan.

sorry, forgot to mention the laser jammer I got was the GF100.
thanks guys, I just got the S50 navman. It's ok but it's a start.
this radar tech isn't cheap, I'll need to save my pennies.
there is no denying governments are using speed camera for revenue raising, they require the income to balance their budget, or at least try to balance their budget!!checkout http://www.australianradar.com
