With ISIS arrests, Australians wishing they had guns
Now more than ever, I wish I was armed.
'I'd feel safer in a country where I was legally allowed to carry around a firearm'
With news of the ISIS plot to randomly abduct members of the Australian public and behead them, Australian sentiment on guns is dramatically shifting.
Australians are looking to America, and not the U.K. for guidance.
With this sort of threat, the normal calculus of a civilized society with a small, armed (or unarmed) police force upon which the citizens are forced to rely, no longer adds up.

Ordered to kill
The alleged plot - to film an Australian being beheaded:
A SERIES of anti-terrorism raids were sparked by intelligence reports that Islamic State supporters were planning a public execution in Australia, Prime Minister Tony Abbott says…
“The exhortations, quite direct exhortations, were coming from an Australian who is apparently quite senior in ISIL to networks of support back in Australia to conduct demonstration killings here in this country,” the Prime Minister told reporters.
“So this is not just suspicion, this is intent and that’s why the police and security agencies decided to act in the way they have.”
NSW Police will allege that some of the Sydney men arrested in the operation had communicated with the Islamic State organisation while developing their alleged plan to seize a random member of the public and behead them live on camera.
Australia has estimated about 60 of its citizens are fighting for ISIS and the Nusra Front in Iraq and Syria. Another 15 Australian fighters had been killed, including two young suicide bombers.
ARMED Australian Federal Police officers will take back command and control of Parliament House in Canberra after fresh revelations suspected terrorists were planning a potential attack on the nation’s capital and the country’s highest office.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal intelligence agencies had picked up “chatter” involving a potential random attack on Parliament House, with fears among national security and intelligence agencies that the Prime Minister and other senior government officials were prime targets.

President Obama will announce Tuesday that the U.S. military will take the lead in overseeing what has been a chaotic and widely criticized response to the worst Ebola outbreak in history, dispatching up to 3,000 military personnel to West Africa

Enough rhetoric. It's time for action.
Australia will deploy a military force of 600 to the Middle East as part of international efforts to combat Islamic State extremists, Prime Minister Tony Abbott has announced.
Australia's contribution will include up to eight Super Hornet aircraft, an early warning and control aircraft, aerial refuelling aircraft and a contingent of Special Forces troops.
'We think this is a balanced and proportionate contribution to what is our fight, but it is the world's fight,' Mr Abbott said.
Good to see the Australian support, but where is the non-UK EU support?
Well at least the Aussies are doing the right thing and leading the way along with the USA and France to sort this scourge of humanity.
Thank you Australia and Mr Abbott.
