A DANDENONG detective is recovering in hospital after being king hit and then bashed by a group of men in Noble Park early today.

The detective, 30, was driving along Isaac St with his female police partner just after 2am when the pair stopped to speak to a group of 20 youths, who police said were Sudanese, standing on the road. The detective asked the men, aged in their late teens to early 20s, to keep the noise down. One of the men then punched the detective from behind and knocked him to the ground.

Several other members of the group joined in the attack, kicking the detective a number of times before fleeing. "The member stopped to talk to these people in the street and he was just king hit. It was unprovoked," a senior officer told the Herald Sun. The injured policeman was taken to Dandenong Hospital suffering facial injuries and cut hands and has not yet been released.

Police are currently interviewing an 18-year-old Dandenong man who was arrested nearby. "He was involved but there were others involved as well," the senior officer said.

Police are appealing for any person with information regarding to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit http://www.crimestoppers.com.au/

Copy of a letter I sent to Andrews today. It sums up my feelings pretty well -

The Hon Kevin Andrews
Minister for Immigration and Citizenship
PO Box 6022
House of Representatives
Parliament House
Canberra ACT 2600

Dear Sir

I write to condemn, in the strongest possible terms, your recent remarks about Sudanese refugees.

Local Sudanese refugees, with whom I associate through my Parish, are deeply distressed by your statements and the controversy they have caused. Many once again feel insecure as a result of your actions.

Your public conduct represents all that is cowardly and base in 'Dog Whistle" politics, and makes me ashamed to be Australian. Obviously, compassion has no place in your handling of the Immigration portfolio.

You should immediately apologise to all Sudanese who are attempting, without sufficient support from your government, to build new lives in this country.

Yours faithfully

I think the issue here is not Christian law abiding Sudanese.

The issue is Islamic brainwashed war torn youth that shouldn't have come here in the first place and expected to fit in..

The Islamic Jihad of Sudan has landed on Australia's doorstep and most Aussies are asleep.

Islam is not a RACE.

Waiting for some pollies to call it like it is - PC FREE!

I was perfectly happy with what Kevin Andrews said, still proud to be an Aussie.

1735099, by failing to appreciate the profound difference in behaviour between Christian and muslim Sudanese, you do yourself and the refugee cause no favours.
A blanket defence of Sudanese immigrants is worse than stupid--you're enabling the thugs thereby.
