D-Day +11

Battle for Cherbourg 1944
The capture of Cherbourg was vital as it provided the Allies with a major French port under their control. Its fall, however, shocked Hitler and the senior German leadership who believed that such a heavily fortified facility could hold out for months. With the capture of the Cotentin peninsula, hope evaporated that the Allies could be dislodged from France.
The US First Army cuts off and isolates the German forces defending Cherbourg.

The Germans were good soldiers, and most of them were not political. I had a good friend in our gun club who had been a German paratrooper in World War II. He emigrated to Canada after the war and ended up in the mountains here. The guy was in his early eighties, and was still a crack shot with a bolt gun and iron sights. He died of a stroke about two years ago, and we all miss him. He was a good man.

Hi Hermit
I agree with what you say about most of the German soldiers of WW2 being good decent, brave men.

Today brave Israeli & German soldiers fight side by side against Islamofacism.

Together fighting for the Wests Freedom against Sharia Law(political Islam) and Israel's right to exist.

History repeating itself....
