Even today in Beersheva, now a bustling and modern desert city, the legend of the Australians is still remembered, particularly the rapport they struck up with the local children.

Soldiers in Afghanistan have backed the brass and political leaders who have warned Australia to prepare for bad news as the enemy steps up its campaign to target Australian troops.

Defence chiefs have pledged the nation's best fighting men will not take a backward step as they hunt down extremists.

"Our aim is not to wait for them to come to us, but to take the fight to them," a Defence spokesman said. - http://www.news.com.au

Diggers kill Taliban insurgents

No coalition troops killed in attack
Air strikes called to defeat rebels
At least 50 Taliban insurgents killed

AUSTRALIAN soldiers have fought a six-hour battle with Taliban insurgents, killing at least 50 militants in a joint operation with Afghani and other NATO troops in southern Afghanistan.
No coalition troops were killed in Sunday's attack on a Taliban stronghold in Uruzgan province, which followed the deaths in the last three weeks of Australian soldiers David Pearce and decorated SAS sergeant Matthew Locke in Afghanistan.

Australian, Dutch and Afghani army soldiers launched the attack on Baluch village during a gathering of local Taliban, provincial police chief Juma Gul Himat said.
Charles Anthony, a spokesman for NATO's International Security Assistance Force, said that "several dozen militants were killed" in the clash.

"This was a well-led and well-co-ordinated engagement, with the Afghani National Army and ISAF working in conjunction with each other," he said.

Afghani Defence Ministry spokesman Zaher Murad said Afghan and ISAF forces, including Australians, fought the insurgents on the ground and called in air strikes to defeat the rebels.

Mr Murad said the Taliban had suffered at least 50 dead and 13 insurgents had been captured.

"We don't know exactly how many insurgents were killed, their bodies are still on the battlefield," he said.

Two policemen and an Afghani soldier were also wounded, Mr Jumat said.

Dutch and Australian troops form the bulk of ISAF forces in Uruzgan.

Afghan and mainly Western forces are struggling to contain a Taliban insurgency based in the south and east, which is hampering reconstruction and undermining faith in the Government of President Hamid Karzai.
Sunday's clash, in the south-central province of Uruzgan, comes as ISAF troops and Afghan forces are conducting a large offensive in the area against Taliban rebels.

"This is part of the Spin Ghar operation, which began on Thursday," Mr Murad said.

Violence in Afghanistan this year has been the deadliest since the 2001 US-led invasion, and more than 5300 people have died because of insurgency-related violence.

Also in the south, a roadside bomb against a US-led coalition convoy killed one soldier and wounded another, a coalition statement said. In the east, coalition forces raided a compound suspected of housing al-Qaeda facilitators, killing several militants on Sunday.

Lighthorse descendants ready to charge again

Ninety years to the day on October 31, Mr Edgar's father, Sergeant Ian Swan Edgar, joined the charge of the 12th Australian Lighthorse Regiment -- a death-defying gallop across the sands of Beersheba, now known as Beersheva, that was to change the course of World WarI in the Holy Land.

On Wednesday, Mr Edgar and 50 descendants of the original Lighthorse men will don the 1917 period costume of their forebears and re-enact their gallantry at the site of the original charge.

Another 90 Australians have made the journey to Israel ahead of the unveiling next April of a life-sized bust of a Digger on horseback, to be erected at the new Park of the Australian Soldier, a $3 million project funded by Australian businessman Richard Pratt.

The Light Horse legacy prompted the chief executive of the Pratt Foundation, Sam Lipski, to set up a theme park alongside the bust of the Digger, catering for the needs of children with and without physical disabilities. It will be unveiled on April 28, three days after Anzac Day.

The 3m-high bronze horseman, crafted by Melbourne sculptor Peter Corlett, who designed the Australian War Memorial's statue of Simpson and his donkey, will be the first memorial dedicated to the Australian victory in Beersheva. The memorial will include panels explaining

Australia's role in the Middle East in World War I, World War II and current missions.

The Beersheba commemoration this year has taken on a spirit of celebration, with representatives of the Turkish and New Zealand governments set to attend along with participants from Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland as well as large numbers of Australians resident in Israel.

The 12th Lighthorse was no stranger to the Turks, with most of the men who took part in the charge having landed at Gallipoli two years earlier. But unlike the gruesome campaign in the Dardanelles, the Australians routed the Ottoman soldiers that October afternoon.

The surprise attack by 800 horsemen was one of the last great cavalry charges.
Just after 4.30pm in the desert heat of late autumn, the men set off, first in a canter, but soon breaking into a strong gallop.

The 4th Lighthorse took the right flank and the 12th the left. They rode north across flat ground towards entrenched Turkish positions defending Beersheba and then onwards to the town. It was a pivotal seizure hailed as one of the most heroic in Australian military history.

Casualties during the charge were low, with 31 Australians killed and 36 wounded. More than 1000 Turkish prisoners were captured on the day, with the help of British forces who took substantial casualties in earlier softening-up battles, with up to 1300 dead and wounded.

Mr Edgar will not be attempting quite the same rigour, nor will the other 50 riders.

Sergeant Edgar's three brothers were all Light Horsemen, of the 8th, 9th and 10th regiments. All four soldiers were wounded in the war, but Sergeant Edgar recovered to live a long life, dying in 1984 at the age of 95.

Bill Hyman, whose grandfather Major Bill Hyman joined the charge, said he was travelling to Beersheva in a bid to "find out what it was like for him".

"I understand the bigger picture of what happened, just not how it happened," he said at a function in Jerusalem's Old City at which the Australians were presented with goodwill certificates by an Israeli tourism official.

Most of the Diggers shared little of that afternoon with their families, as was the custom of men of that generation. "All we heard was that it was pretty much a desperate measure," said Grant Pike, whose great-uncle Harold Seale survived the charge.

"They had 20 minutes to form up and get going."

Even today in Beersheva, now a bustling and modern desert city, the legend of the Australians is still remembered, particularly the rapport they struck up with the local children.

Aussie Heroism

Losing track of heroism
Peter Ryan October 27, 2007

THE Kokoda Track is symbolic shorthand for Australia's deliverance from danger during the Papua New Guinea campaigns of World War II.
It was on November 2, 1942, that we recaptured the Kokoda government station from the Japanese enemy. The devoted courage and resourcefulness of our young soldiers along that sad pathway amply justifies the choice of Kokoda as an emblem, though there was much other heroic fighting in New Guinea, and other tracks of crucial importance.
Who has heard of the Bulldog Track?
Yet it was one of the most extraordinary lines of communication in modern military history. The official war historian tells us that the Australian Army never undertook a more ambitious project, "through one of the most difficult and unpleasant areas ever to confront troops".

Muslim Youth Leader- Sydney

Muslim Youth Center leader -warns of terror strike
John Lyons October 29, 2007

AUSTRALIA faces a "London-type bombing" if relations between Muslims and the intelligence and police authorities do not improve, an influential Islamic youth leader has warned.
Fadi Rahman, who runs one of Sydney's biggest youth centres at Lidcombe in the city's west, said overseas Islamic elements were attempting to radicalise Muslim youth with their hardline ideologies.
But in a warning that will resonate with Australian authorities, Mr Rahman said Muslims did not trust ASIO or the Australian Federal Police and that the bungled terror case against Gold Coast doctor Mohamed Haneef had worsened the situation. "The biggest problem ASIO and the federal police have is that no one in the Islamic community trusts them enough to give them a heads-up about anything," Mr Rahman told The Australian.

Threat ... influential Islamic youth leader Fadi Rahman warns Australia faces a terror strike like the bombings in London in 2005 / AFP

"Look at the Haneef thing - why would we trust these guys when all you see is one fumble after another? People are afraid."

Dr Haneef, an Indian national, was detained in July on suspicion of having played a role in the foiled terrorist attacks in London and Glasgow, but the case fell apart after a series of prosecution mistakes.

Mr Rahman said a battle for the hearts and minds of young Muslims was under way in Australia between influences from overseas wanting to radicalise youths and more moderate influences in Australia.

Mr Rahman said he believed he had been the target of a recruitment attempt but when he responded "defensively" those talking to him said they had merely been joking.

Asked about the anatomy of a recruitment, he said: "Most of the time they start at the local mosque in small groups - they move quickly into the garage, then people's homes. You get sucked in."

He said the typical recruiter was in their 40s or 50s, "from overseas, well-educated and tapping into young people's frustrations and anger".

"I think we are very similar to London," he said. "There are these individuals from overseas who are basically in their mid-life who have these ideologies and because of the animosity they have experienced in their own countries have deep hatred of the Western world. It's very easy to tap into the mind of someone who has a low education level, unemployment and who has basically given up on life.

"The right ingredients are there. We need to do something or what happened in London, a London-type bombing, will happen here."

The "something" includes programs to give opportunities to Muslim youth and a "less hostile" attitude by the federal Government. Mr Rahman said the Government was spending too much on campaigns directed at people who did not know what was going on - such as the Be Alert, Not Alarmed campaign - but not enough in communities such as southwestern Sydney, where about 250,000 Muslims live. "It's not like it will be John Smith on the north shore of Sydney who will have information, it will be Mohammed or Ahmed out here," he says.

Mr Rahman said he and Toufic Mallah, the man he brought into the youth centre to stress moderation, preached non-violence.

About 50 of the youths at the centre, which has about 460 members aged 10 to 35, are former criminals who have done time in jail. Mr Rahman said they could go "either way".

At the Independent Centre of Research Australia, he runs anger-management programs and has opened a prayer room run by Sheik Mallah. Sheik Mallah said the second chapter of the Koran stressed that "we have made a moderate nation".

He says non-Muslim Australians should approach their local sheiks if there was anything they did not understand or like about their local Muslim communities. "Come and speak to us," he said.

Mr Rahman brokered a deal with IBM last week under which the computer company will mentor 10 youths from the centre and offer three traineeships.

Mr Rahman said this sort of support gave the young people and their families and friends hope. In the aftermath of the Cronulla race riots in Sydney in 2005 there was progress between Muslim and non-Muslim communities, but since then "things have taken a nasty turn".

"The blame game" of all Muslims being blamed for terrorism "will only put people offside", he said.

"When the shit hits the fan we will all be covered with it. It's just a matter of time before someone says I've had enough. Unless something is done and attitudes change something will happen.

"We haven't learnt our lesson post-September 11, the Bali bombings, the Cronulla riots and the London bombings. There's deep-seated hatred on both sides. When young Muslims go into other areas they go in with force.

"I cop it from both ends - who do you please? Do you please your own community or the wider community? A lot of them are saying don't waste your time, you will never get anywhere with these people."

Mr Rahman said one of the biggest problems in the Lebanese community was that many of his generation, although they loved their parents, felt caught between two worlds.

Italy: Eighth mosque attacked in northern region of Lombardy

Rome, 25 Oct. (AKI) - A mosque in a small town outside Milan has been the target of a violent attack - the eighth on mosques in the region of Lombardy surrounding the city. Italian media reports said the Alif Baa Islamic Centre, in the northern Italian city of Abbiategrasso, 20 kilometres west of Milan, was subjected to fresh violence on Wednesday.
Witnesses said a masked man was seen throwing a Molotov cocktail inside the courtyard of the mosque from his motorcycle in the late afternoon. No major damage or injuries were reported in the attack.
This is the eighth assault against Islamic centres in the region of Lombardy in recent months. The Alif Baa Islamic Centre reported other attacks on 25 July and 10 August this year.
Another mosque in the nearby city of Segrate was attacked on 5 August and the car of the Imam, Hamid Zariate, was destroyed. The Islamic community of Abbiategrasso is considered to be one of the most integrated in northern Italy.
It is also the hometown of the Italian missionary, Giancarlo Bossi, kidnapped by Philippino rebels in the south of the country in June and released after a month of captivity.
"There is a need for dialogue among religions," said Bossi.
"Whoever committed this act is a fanatic who does not respect a sacred place."

Threat & Reality

The United Kingdom is the home and birth place of the Anglo Saxon race. If the Anglo Saxon people of this land do not defend and protect their heritage, culture and identity then who will?
No one - exactly - Islam will just fill the vacuum and destroy our past present and future. The Anglo Saxon race of the British Isles will not let that happen. The time has come to stop being racist against us and allow us to defend our country. I know nothing about politics and have never voted but when my life was in danger and my survival instinct kicked in, who was there to turn too to understand other than the Jews, my country folk who are experiencing the same and understand.
Since looking at the BNP I have seen and felt a Christian influence and also an embracing of the Jewish race and Israel.
With this influence you have a new party who have discovered a new identity with the protection of the Anglo Saxon people of the United Kingdom paramount with the protection of ethnic minorities rights as long as it does not enforce itself upon British life, exactly what Islam's Jihad is doing.
Anti-BNP is old news because a vast majority of Anglo Saxon British citizens are now waking up and are starting to see through the lies we have been fed and see the danger we are facing. Pundits, think tanks and statisticians can talk about the threat we are facing and how far into Europe Islam has spread on its mission of conquest.
The question is: when are we going to stop looking at the problem, talking about the problem, being forced into submission and start acting. We need to stand together and help one another because the future of our civilisation is at stake.
Muslims want to kill us and have no problem carrying out those threats like with the murder of Theo Van Gogh. Others have to go into permanent hiding or 24 hour security because Islam has an army of psychopathic murderers willing to carryout heinous acts of murder against innocent people. The time for us to stop living in fear has arrived and the time for them to feel fear has arrived.
The madness of our societies leave us fighting like David against Goliath but with our hands tied behind our backs. When are we going to be released from the bond so that we can pick up a small stone for our sling shot and defeat the monster 'Islam' that is growing in Our midst.
All other mediation channels have been exhausted with Islam, just like with Iran and its nuclear ambitions, the time for Hegira has arrived and it is in Our governments and authorities hands to act and help those who are standing face-on in the frontline of Islams conquest of Britain.

B2- More Firepower

B2 in flight, and a new beastie on the ground? Looks like it came from the thunderbirds.
US flags B2 stealth bomber MOP upgrade
October 27, 2007 01:00am

NESTLED deep in George W.Bush's latest $US190 billion ($210 billion) request to Congress for emergency funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is a tantalising little item that has received scant attention.
The US Department of Defence has asked for an additional $US88 million to modify B2 stealth bombers so they can carry a 13,600kg bomb called the "massive ordnance penetrator" (or MOP, in the disarming acronymic vernacular of the military).
The MOP is an advanced form of a "bunker-buster", an air-delivered weapon with an explosive capacity to destroy targets deep underground. Explaining the request, the administration says it is in response to an "urgent operational need from theatre commanders". What kind of emergency could that be?

HD image

It's possible that the US Air Force wants more firepower in the hunt for Osama bin Laden and al-Qa'eda as they skulk in their caves in Afghanistan. But that wouldn't require stealth bombers - the sleek, black-skinned, radar-dodging darts of the US military.

The Americans own the skies over Afghanistan and Iraq and could, if they wished, blanket the two countries with all manner of bombardment from low altitude in broad daylight.

So what lies somewhere between Iraq and Afghanistan that might demand the urgent deployment of a stealth aircraft that can quietly drop a 13,600kg bomb and destroy something several storeys below ground?

The secret wine cellars in Tehran that house the illicit stash of vintage clarets belonging to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? The vast collection of grey polyester suits and Iranian goody bags that lie in wait for the next batch of luckless British sailors?

Pat yourself on the back if you correctly identified the subterranean nuclear enrichment facilities operated by the Iranian Government in its pursuit of an epoch-altering bomb.

The debate in Washington about what to do with the increasingly recalcitrant and self-confident Iranian regime has taken a significant turn in the past few weeks. And the decision to upgrade the bombing capacity of the US military is perhaps the most powerful indication yet that the debate is reaching a climax.

War on the War

In The Kingdom, FBI agents and Saudi police investigating the murder of 200 civilians are portrayed as having the same motive as the Islamist terrorists who killed them.

Hollywood’s War on the War on Terror
By Michael Fumento

You can’t argue that Hollywood’s only motivation in bashing anti-terrorist efforts is money. "Babel" lost money and it's clear "The Kingdom" will as well, while "Rendition" came out of the starting gate a full-fledged flop.

Moreover, it’s hardly the case that Islamists don’t make believable villains, much less more believable and captivating than evil cyber-geniuses and neo-Nazis. Islamists have killed about three thousand American civilians on 9/11, killed almost 200 people in the Madrid Train Bombings, and 52 more in the London subway bombings.

Islamic terrorists routinely explode bombs in markets and launch chlorine gas attacks. They build torture chambers and make and display videos of beheadings in which the victim screams in agony as his head is sawed off with a dull knife.

Even their foiled plots are often bizarre, such as Richard Reid’s “shoe bomber” attempt. These guys are a scriptwriter's dream. Quentin Tarantino couldn't think this stuff up.

As to not wanting to stereotype either Arabs or Muslims, the vast majority of whom want nothing to do with violence done in Mohammed’s name, has it occurred to the Tinseltown terror apologists that nobody suffers more from Islamic terror than Muslims themselves?

Left Wing Justice

After reading the following essay you may well end up looking like this stressed cat..
In Victoria, Australia, a judge has been appointed into the Supreme Court of Victoria known for defending international drug traffickers and terror suspects. He was appointed by the Victorian Attorney-General.
The Victorian Attorney-General, Rob Hulls, yesterday came under fire for his latest round of judicial appointments which - aside from Mr Lasry - also includes a former ACTU assistant secretary, Iain Ross.
The promotion of Dr Ross - a former ALP member and union official - to the County Court was immediately attacked by the Liberal Party as the latest in a long line of political appointments.
Mr Hulls has previously installed three former presidents of civil liberties group Liberty Victoria to the bench, with left-wing lawyer Gregory Connellan the latest to become a judge.
Overall, he has made sweeping changes to the judiciary in Victoria - appointing more than half of the 214 judges since he became Attorney-General in 1999. Even one of his former chiefs-of-staff, Fiona Hayes, was made a magistrate this year, and one-time Labor candidate Stuart Morris served as head of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Appeals tribunal before resigning earlier this year.
Several of Mr Hulls’s appointments, including County Court head Michael Rozenes and Court of Appeal judge Frank Vincent, were members of a group called “Lawyers for Labor”, which backed Mark Latham’s election bid in 2004.
After a career as a trade union official, Dr Ross served for 12 years as a vice-president of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission before becoming a partner at law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth.
Opposition legal affairs spokesman Robert Clarke attacked Dr Ross’s appointment, saying he had spent only a brief period as a solicitor and that his judicial experience was questionable.
“His appointment seems to owe as much to his union or industrial relations background as to his qualifications for the bench,” he said.
“It’s worrying that an increasing number of judicial appointments are coming from a strong Labor or union background under Rob Hulls.”
Mr Lasry has been a … high-profile criminal lawyer who has represented terror suspect Jack Thomas, two of the so-called Bali Nine drug smugglers, as well as convicted heroin trafficker Van Nguyen, who was executed in Singapore.
He was once a member of the ALP but has recently criticised the party’s stance on refusing to stand up for Indian-born Queensland doctor Mohamed Haneef, pushed out of Australia despite the farcical collapse of charges of aiding terrorism levelled against him. (SOURCE)

This is merely an extension of the onerous ROEs under which our troops have had to struggle for years. Firing a weapon can result in criminal or administrative action. I've seen incidents where soldiers, who were attacked, did not return fire because of the possible repercussions. what a way to fight a war.

Sticking up for Freedom

Important & Disturbing!
Leaders of the SIOE (Stop islamification of europe) have been subjected to an attack that looks like it was meant to be murder.
Sunday the 21th October was not only a severe attack on freedom of speech but an attempt to close the mouth forever on an organisation who stands up for freedom, freedom of speech and for democracy. Small details were the reason why it didn’t ended up with murder like in Holland, on one of the brave advocate’s for freedom of expression who dare to stand in the frontline.

Dispatch from the Eurabian Front: Riots in Amsterdam and Brussels

From: http://www.jihadwatch.org/

Brussels Journal reports on riots just yards from where we participated in the Counterjihad Summit in Brussels last week. An update on this story:

Similar events are currently taking place in Brussels, the capital of neighbouring Belgium and of the EU. Last Sunday, demonstrating Turkish youths ransacked an Armenian restaurant in the Sint-Joost-ten-Node borough. According to the owner the police was present at the scene but did not interfere while his establishment was being demolished. The Armenian had to flee for his life.

Another man who had to run for his life was the Belgian journalist Mehmet Koksal, an ethnic Turk. He was attacked around 11 pm on Sunday evening by a group of some twenty Turkish youths in front of the American embassy in Brussels, a few yards from the Belgian parliament building.
The Parliament and the US Embassy are less than one kilometer from Sint-Joost-ten-Node. Koksal fled to a nearby police car, but a female police officer refused to let him into the car, whereupon the youths savagely beat him up. Fearing that they were about to lynch him, the police officers changed their attitude and allowed the journalist to seek refuge in their car....

The Equality and Human Rights Commission is now with us, this organization has been set up ostensibly to create to promote equality and good community relations. Fine words but when you consider that the core brief of this quango is to monitor any breach of the Religious Hatred Act the whole thing becomes much more sinister.

I found this at Nan's: nannyknowsbest.blogspot.com/

I can exclusively reveal that Birmingham Council have decided to set up their own branch of the Gestapo. Nanny’s autocratic friends in Birmingham Council have decided to “beef up” their ongoing policy of snooping, interfering and controlling peoples’ lives.

Council staff are being ordered by Birmingham Council to adopt Gestapo tactics, and report people who smoke in their own homes. A Birmingham City Council memo from Viv Strong (Council Directorate Safety Officer- a very grand title!) states that staff, such as social workers and home helps, are at risk from passive smoking during house visits.

The memo orders employees to tell “service users” (voters, to you and me) to extinguish their cigarettes, or face being reported.

Here is an extract of the memo:

"..When employees are called upon to visit service users at home it has to be accepted that the service user is entitled to smoke in their own home...Employees in such instances may politely request that the service user refrains from smoking, taking into account their own personal safety throughout the duration of the visit...Where the service user refuses to co-operate, the employee should report this incident immediately to their manager..Upon receipt of such information managers should review the risk assessment.”

The Birmingham Branch of the Gestapo will consist of social workers, home helps, trading standards officers and licensing officers; they will visit pubs, clubs and peoples’ homes.

UK - Elements Within

UK Conservatives for Terror?

At National Review Online, Niles Gardiner has a piece on Britain’s Conservative Muslim Forum and their appallingly extremist “security” recommendations (noted last week at LGF): Conservatives for Terror?

As Britain fights a global war alongside the United States and other key allies against Islamic terrorism and its state sponsors, it is hard to believe that elements within the British Conservative Party are actually working to undermine it.
The world’s oldest political party, once led by Winston Churchill, recently established an official body called the Conservative Muslim Forum (CMF), appointed with the aim of providing “the Conservative Party and the UK with a voice which represents the overwhelmingly moderate majority of British Muslims.”
Its statements and policy positions are however fundamentally at odds with Britain’s approach to combating the threat posed by Islamic terrorist organizations as well as dangerous rogue regimes, and are distinctly lacking in moderation.

Lucky Australia has Mr John Howard.

The CMF is headed by Lord Mohamed Sheikh, who was made a life peer in 2006 and is the Chairman of the “Conservative Ethnic Diversity Panel.” Lord Sheikh has been an outspoken critic of Israel, and claims that Israeli actions in Lebanon as well as British involvement in the war in Iraq are responsible for the radicalization of young Muslims in the U.K.
The Conservative Muslim Forum recently unveiled a strikingly frank policy document, first reported by the London Daily Telegraph, that projects a worldview that is thoroughly divorced from traditional British conservatism, and openly appeases Islamic radicalism as well as the Iranian regime. The paper is a response to the Conservative party’s National and International Security Policy Group report released in July.
It condemns Britain’s s traditional support for Israel, opposes the banning of fundamentalist Muslim preachers from entering the U.K., sympathizes with Iran’s nuclear ambitions, rejects any association between militant Islam and terrorism, and calls for a significant rewrite of the British history syllabus in schools. The Forum also defends the standing in the Muslim community of the highly controversial Islamic scholar Yusuf al-Qaradawi, an Egyptian cleric based in Qatar, who has been dubbed the “Theologian of Terror.”
The CMF document is a massive embarrassment for the Conservative party at a time when it has regained momentum in the polls, and is mounting a credible challenge to the Labour-led government of Gordon Brown. It is an Achilles heel that, if not challenged and strenuously rejected by the party’s leadership, will seriously undermine the Conservatives’ credibility as a government in waiting.

Islamic Extremists
We disagree with the suggestion that “foreign preachers and scholars advocating the rejection of the institutions and values of democracy” should be denied entry into Britain. As advocates of democracy, we oppose those who argue that Islam is incompatible with democracy. However, it is the mark of a mature and liberal democracy that it accepts people's freedom to disagree. If a political party wishes to campaign, constitutionally, for the abolition of democracy in the UK and its replacement by a totalitarian system, why should it not be free to do so? Furthermore, why should foreigners who advocate a peaceful change in that direction be banned from entry to the UK?
Islam and Terrorism
Terrorists are criminals, and linking them with any religion is simply playing to their terms. We accept that some terrorists do abuse Islam for their purposes. However, an incoming Conservative administration must deny their attempt to link criminal acts to any religion. The term “terrorism” must be separated from any religious references. We reiterate that the Conservative Party should not explicitly or implicitly link terrorism with Islam as, similar to other major religions, Islam forbids terrorism. Choice of language is very important in this matter as it affects public perception of the party.

Marcus Luttrell and his three buddies had to make an impossible decision. Afghani goat herders disrupted their secret mission to track a Taliban leader. Killing them would be a violation of the ROE (Rules of Engagement). Holding them would reveal their position. Letting them go would likely bring the Taliban upon them. Luttrell, who’s riveting new book ‘Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10’ is fast top seller, talks to Breitbart.tv in front of the U.S. Capitol about courage, the consequence of decisions, and the meaning of his Navy Cross.

BAGHDAD, Oct. 18, 2007 — One hundred forty-one paratroopers decided to stay Army in a mass re-enlistment ceremony held on Forward Operating Base Kalsu, Iraq, Oct. 14.

The paratroopers from 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, made the decision to continue their service in the Army after being deployed for over a year.

Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, commanding general of Multi-National Division–Center, made a special trip to FOB Kalsu to lead the oath of enlistment for these paratroopers.

“To re-enlist this many paratroopers after being deployed for a year is truly amazing,” said Master Sgt. Douglas Goodwin, senior career counselor for the 4th BCT (Abn.), 25th Inf. Div. “It says a lot about the leadership and the patriotism of these paratroopers.”

After the ceremony, Lynch thanked each paratrooper and posed for pictures.

To this date, the Spartan Brigade has re-enlisted nearly 1,300 soldiers; approximately 70 percent of them have decided to stay with the brigade for another tour.

“Soldiers are special people and to see these paratroopers making a commitment to continue serving their country when the operational tempo is so high proves they trust in their leadership,” Goodwin said.

“It also shows how much they believe in what they are doing and stand proud as United States paratroopers ready to defend our country against the ever-growing threat of terrorism."

The First Lady Rocks!

Laura Bush in Saudi - promoting greater cancer awareness, meeting breast cancer survivors and attending the signing of a memorandum of understanding under which Saudi Arabia will formally join the US-Middle East Partnership for breast cancer awareness and research. Her four-nation tour which began in the United Arab Emirates includes Kuwait and Jordan. It also aims at restoring the 'US image in the Middle East battered by the US-led invasion of Iraq'.

Debbie Schlussel had this earlier; the photos aren’t from Saudi Arabia, they’re from the United Arab Emirates—the country/caliphate that is currently trying to buy a controlling interest in the NASDAQ stock exchange.

Good for Laura Bush.

Who else can put out such a startling image to the world? Notice the contrast: A smiling woman - in pants - and makeup - relaxed and comfortable - not afraid to show her face to the world. No head covering.

Next to her ? Images of slavery.

These women beside her are speaking in the only way they are capable of at this moment. They are showing the world they are survivors in chains.

This picture is worth a thousand words. Listen with your eyes.

Amen.

When I first heard of this visit that is exactly what I thought we see. Instead our First Lady not only defied "sensitivities" but dared to show some leg to boot!

Laura rocks!
